KQ-1784 · REDSHIFT/JUMP

Redshift Jump

A window onto a starfield drawn with real relativistic optics: press and hold, or hold Space or Enter, and the drive's rapidity climbs at constant thrust, so the stars bunch toward the direction of travel by aberration and shift blue, the rim thins and reddens, each star streaks by how fast it crosses the sky, and near top speed the visible sky collapses onto one bright ring where the Doppler factor is one. Let go at the peak and the ring flashes outward to white while the sky is reseeded for the next destination and the speed falls away on a critically damped curve with the glide spring's natural frequency, the new stars streaming back to their places as the destination's card rises on springs.glide; let go early and the drive spins down, and Escape aborts. A click from assistive technology flies the whole jump on autopilot.

Props

velocity
number
default 0.99
Top speed as a fraction of light's, 0.9 to 0.999: the higher, the tighter the ring.
shift
number
default 1
How strongly the Doppler shift colours and dims the stars, 0 (aberration only) to 2 (vivid).
density
number
default 0.6
How many stars fill the sky, 0.2 to 1.
destinations
{ name: string; detail?: string }[]
default defaultRedshiftDestinations
Where the drive can take you, in order; the last jump wraps to the first.
value / defaultValue
number
default 0
The destination, as an index into destinations; controlled or initial.
onValueChange
(index: number) => void
default —
Fires from the jump that arrived somewhere, with the new index.
onPhaseChange
(phase: "idle" | "charging" | "peak" | "jumping") => void
default —
Fires as the drive moves between idle, charging, at the peak and jumping.
charge
number
default 1600
How long a held press takes to reach top speed, ms, 600 to 4000.
streaks
number
default 0.6
How long the stars streak while the speed changes, 0 (points) to 1 (long trails).
aim
number
default 0.5
How far the heading leans toward the pointer while idle, 0 to 1.
card
boolean
default true
Show the destination's name card over the window's lower edge.
label
string
default "Jump drive"
The window's accessible name; the destination is added to it.
sound
boolean
default false
Play rising tones as the drive charges and jumps. Off unless asked for.
paused
boolean
default false
Hold the drive: presses do nothing.
seed
number
default 11
Seeds every destination's sky.
dpr
number
default 2
Cap on the canvas's device pixel ratio, at most 2.
disabled
boolean
default false
The window's button is disabled.
className
string
default "h-56 w-full"
Sizes the window.
